The contractors on the four building projects for the Clyde-Green Springs schools are reporting their projects are on schedule.
Superintendent Gregg Elchert who returned from vacation this week said ground has been gained on three projects but he is still concerned that the Clyde Elementary School is behind.
He said he visited all four sites on Monday.
"We knew that the high school and South Main/Clyde Elementary were going to be tight," he admitted about getting those renovation projects done in time for the start of school Sept. 7.
"At the high school they are a few days ahead on the gym," he pointed out. "We're on the line to get that gym back if not for the first week of volleyball practice then on the second week."
He told the board that fitness equipment was being moved back into the high school on Wednesday.
Elchert also reported that flooring in being put down in the new Clyde High School in-door concession stand and carpet in the athletic director's and school offices. At CHS, the new floor for the kitchen is started and new kitchen equipment is slated for delivery on Monday, Aug. 2.
"Clyde Elementary is looking the roughest at this time," Elchert told the school board.
At Clyde Elementary, Elchert said all the demolition is done, but the project is a little behind because of the gym wall. Contractors are replacing an unstable front wall behind the exterior brick wall in the elementary school gym.
He added the windows are in the classrooms at Clyde Elementary, but there is a lot of painting to do.
"Demolition of the Green Springs building ran into a snag today," he reported Monday night.
Underneath the concrete floor in the auditorium/gym floor, contractors found a pile of rubble - possibly from the old Academy.
The rubble is as deep as 12 feet in places and it all must be removed and replaced with new fill, he said.
"The middle school made a lot of progress while I was gone," Elchert commented. "The seventh and 8th grade 'pods' (classroom wings) are what they consider done."
