Dinner, auction to aid Bubba Andrews

Clyde High School graduate and local sports star “Bubba” Jacob Andrews was diagnosed this month with a cancerous tumor.

The 20-year-old local man will be undergoing aggressive treatments starting March 16, according to CHS Athletic Director and family friend Ryan Greenslade on Friday.

“It is called a glioblastoma mulitforme tumor. This type of tumor is usually found in older patients,” Greenslade noted.

Andrews is slated to go through six weeks of both radiation and chemotherapy weekdays in Cleveland as an outpatient.

Greenslade said the young man who was known for his outstanding athletic performances while at CHS is looking to keep his privacy. Andrews was in top physical condition prior to a seizure in late January.  While at CHS, Andrews participated in Football, Wrestling and Baseball and received numerous honors.

Cards of support may be sent to: Jacob Andrews, 1550 Ohio Street, Clyde Ohio.

“As a result of this weeks news, we have rallied to Bubba’s side and we are in the process of setting up a benefit dinner and silent auction to help Bubba and his family out,” Greenslade added. He and Vicki Nieset are coordinating the event.

There will be a Chicken Bowl Dinner - mashed potatoes, corn, gravy, popcorn chicken sprinkled with cheese and a drink and dessert.

;The dinner and silent auction will be held on Sunday, March 14 at Clyde High School. The cost of a dinner is $7. The dinner will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  At 2 p.m. the silent auction will end and the winners will be notified.

Monetary donations are being accepted for the dinner and items for the silent auction. Contact Greenslade at 419-547-9511 to for an item to be picked up or take it to Clyde High School.

There also has been an account set-up at the Clyde Croghan Colonial Bank on behalf of Andrews and his family.  The account is “Bubba’s Battle” and donations may also be sent directly to the Croghan Colonial Bank, 100 N. Main St., Clyde.
