Warren Brown, a man who served as Sandusky County Clerk of Court and now is county administrator, is taking on a race normally reserved for millionaires - the United States Senate.
Disillusioned by the two-party system, the former Republican is running as an independent candidate and with the support of his family in Clyde, Ohio and friends, Brown is tackling his first challenge to get into the Ohio Senate Race.
By Primary Election Day in Ohio, Brown must have collected 5,000 valid signatures to see his name on the November ballot against the Republican Ron Portman and Democrat Lee Fisher. Brown points out that the system seems to be against independent candidates as he is required to have five times as many valid signatures to get on the Ohio ballot as a party candidate must have.
"I think the key is if we get on the ballot, I think the media will pick up on that," Brown said last week when he held a press conference in his home. He was disappointed that only the hometown weekly newspaper, The Clyde Enterprise, and a photographer from a nearby daily attended.
