Kendal events, March 2010

Lectures

* On Tuesday, March 16 at 7:15 p.m. the Oberlin Heritage Center presents, "The Gold Rush of 1849: Lorain County's Buckeye Company on the California Trail." Charles E. Herdendorf will speak of the trek his great-great uncle Henry Garfield made to California, and the reenactment of the trip that Herdendorf and his wife made in 2007 using his uncle's travel log and letters.

* On Wednesday, March 17 at 7:15 p.m., "Exploring Under Antarctica" will be presented by David Cothran, a naturalist, undersea specialist and expedition leader for Lindblad Expeditions. He will discuss equipment and techniques for polar diving and also provide photos.

* On Thursday, March 18 at 7:15 p.m., "Omaha Beach" will be presented by Don Van Roosen, a GI who made the D-Day landing and survived to tell his recollections of that day on the beach.

Music

* On Friday, March 5 at7:15 p.m., pianist and Artist Diploma student at the Oberlin Conservaotry, Xian-dan Sun, plays works by Shumann, Ravel and Ginastera.

* On Tuesday, March 23 at 7:15 p.m., violinist Brendan Shea plays works by Mozart and Prokofiev.

Art

* Opening on March 10 in the Kendal Gallery is an exhibit by print artists from the Zygote Cooperative Press of Cleveland. Zygote Press is a non-profit, cooperative, fine art printmaking workshop located in the Quadrangle arts district in the Superior/St. Clair neighborhood.

* On March 11 at 2:30 p.m. in The Friends Gallery, a reception will be held for retired Cleveland architect William Collins, whose watercolors are now on exhibit. Collins will give a gallery talk.

* Through the month of March, the Community Art Walls of Kendal will continue the exhibit of watercolors by artist Louise Luckenbill.

Open House

* On Thursday, March 25 from 2:30 to 4 p.m., Kendal at Oberlin will present "A Taste of Oberlin," in Kendal's newly renovated dining areas. Sample specialty items from Kendal's chef and other Oberlin eateries. Tours of the community will follow. RSVP by Friday, March 19.

These events are free, open to the public and are held at Kendal at Oberlin ~ 600 Kendal Drive ~ Oberlin, Ohio. Gallery hours are daily from 9AM to 7PM. For more information, please call 440-775-0094.
