OHS student rewarded with Academic Honors

The faculty and staff of Oberlin High School have announced the list of students receiving Academic Honors for the 2009-2010 school year. To receive these honors the students must attain the Honor Roll with a minimum 3.5-GPA for each and every one of the year's four grading periods. Students earning Academic Honors for the first time are presented with the Academic Medal signifying their success. The second awarding of Academic Honors earns the student their OHS Academic Letter. Academic achievement in subsequent years earns additional Academic Medals.

"These students are not just highly successful in the classroom," OHS principal William Baylis said. "They are accomplished and award-winning artists, musicians, actors and athletes. You'll find them as active in the community as they are in school. These young people, their families, and indeed, the whole school, should be very proud of their accomplishments."

Members of the Class of 2010 were awarded their Academic Honors at an assembly on Friday, June 4. Seven of these graduating seniors were honored for earning Academic Honors for all four years at OHS; they are Sarah Andrews, Matthew Bremke, Ellen Bryant, Karen Reynolds, Griffin Sabelli, Dyani Sabin, and Cassie Thompson. Freshmen, sophomores and juniors achieving this level of success will receive their awards when school begins again in September.

Those receiving honors include the following:

Ninth grade

Sam Annable, Briana Bumgardner, Abbie Engler, Taiya George, Shaliea Jaskson, Hannah Kim, Brook Sabin and Naviya Schuster-Little.

Tenth grade

Danielle Harris, Isaac Kim, Avalon McKee, Rachel Mentzer, Cyrus Newlin and Nicholas Sakakeeny.

11th GRADE

Erickson Andrews, Michael Andrews, Daniel Bulhosa-Solorzano, Anne Carruthers, Katherine Cavanaugh, Kristi Cornett, Chelsea Cross, Victoria Hardnett, Evan Hilton, Kasha Hilton, Rachel Howsmon, Stephanie Luczkowski, Elizabeth Martin, Nicholas Mavromatis, David Miller, Amelia Reid, Gena Reynolds, Clara Shannon, Zofia Stanley, Zachary Walsh, Abigail Weiss and Leah Wood.

12th GRADE
