Chris Schubert, Raiders open season March 13

Former Oberlin College football stars Greg Mangan, Oberlin High School grad Chris Schubert, and Chris Pisani are continuing to play the game they love professionally.

Mangan, a native of San Francisco, Calif., and 2009 OC graduate, agreed to terms with the Kent Predators of the Indoor Football League. The Predators, who are an expansion team in the IFL, are based in Kent, Wash., a suburb of Seattle.

Mangan, who is arguably the greatest quarterback in OC history, holds nine school records, including career-passing yards (7,002); single-season passing yards (2,404/2006); single-game passing yards (367 vs. Heidelberg 2007) and career-passing touchdowns (48).

Mangan's Predators will take on Pisani's Chicago Slaughter on April 24. Pisani, who is just the second player in school history to earn back-to-back All-NCAC First-Team honors (2006-2007), helped lead the Slaughter to a perfect 14-0 season and IFL title last season. A menace on the Oberlin defense from 2004-2007, Pisani is still the school's all-time sacks leader (22.5) and single-season sack leader (13.5/2005). He is also second all-time with 45 tackles for a loss.

Schubert, a 2008 graduate and local native, spent last season playing for the Mahoning Valley Thunder in the now defunct af2. This season he has signed on with the expansion Richmond Raiders of the American Indoor Football Association (AIFA).

Schubert, one of Oberlin's all-time greats, had an impressive debut in an exhibition game on Jan. 23 as he caught three balls for 67 yards and two scores, while playing in just the first half. His efforts helped the Raiders beat a select group of all-stars 49-46.

The Richmond Raiders officially begin their season on March 13 against the Reading Express.
